TAC Psychology
Psychology to support recovery after a transport accident.
If you are experiencing psychological difficulties following a transport accident in Victoria, the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) may fund psychology treatment.
Our psychologists support anxiety, trauma symptoms, adjustment difficulties, pain-related distress, driving anxiety and return-to-work concerns.
We offer appointments in Kew East and by telehealth, and can assist with TAC billing, treatment plans and approval requirements.
Expertise in trauma, adjustment to injury, pain management, return to work, and functional recovery
Psychology support after a transport accident
If you have been injured in a road accident, recovery can involve more than physical healing. Many people experience anxiety, low mood, sleep difficulties, pain-related distress, trauma symptoms, loss of confidence, or challenges returning to work, study, driving, family life or everyday activities.
Framework Psychology provides warm, practical and evidence-based psychology support for people with TAC claims. We help adults and older teens recover psychologically, rebuild confidence, and move toward meaningful functional improvement after a transport accident.
We can also help with the TAC administration, including invoicing, treatment plans and approval requests where required.
Am I eligible?
TAC psychology at a glance
You may be able to access TAC-funded psychology if:
You have a TAC claim number
Your psychological difficulties are related to your transport accident
You have a referral from your GP or medical practitioner
Psychology treatment is clinically appropriate for your recovery
In the first 90 days after your accident, TAC can help pay for psychology treatment without prior approval if you have a TAC claim number, your doctor or health professional recommends it, and the treatment is for your accident injuries. A referral from your doctor is required.
This can make it easier to begin appropriate psychological treatment relatively early after an accident.
Psychological recovery does not always fit neatly within six appointments or the first 90 days after an accident. If it is close to or more than 90 days after your accident, or if you need more than six psychology sessions in the first 90 days, TAC may require a treatment plan or approval request.
You need a referral from your GP or other medical practitioner for TAC-funded psychology treatment.
Medical Referral Required
The first six eligible psychology sessions within the first 90 days after your accident can generally proceed without requiring prior TAC approval, so long as requirements are met (TAC claim number, a medical referral, and a need for treatment related to your transport accident).
Early Treatment
For approved and payable psychology services, TAC, provides a maximum rebate. This rebate fully covers the cost of appointments with our registered psychologists. For appointments with our clinical psychologists, the gap payable is $30 per session.

How we can help
A transport accident can affect people in different ways.
Psychology may assist with transport accident-related issues such as anxiety, depression, grief and loss, stress, reduced confidence or independence, adjustment, and pain management. Your psychologist will assess your circumstances, treatment needs and goals with you.
Our psychologists can support you with:
Anxiety about driving, being a passenger, cycling, walking near roads or using public transport
Trauma symptoms, intrusive memories, nightmares or feeling constantly on edge
Low mood, frustration, grief or loss of confidence after injury
Stress and adjustment difficulties following changes to work, independence or daily life
Pain-related distress and coping with persistent physical symptoms
Sleep disruption and emotional exhaustion
Returning to work, study, sport, parenting and valued activities
Managing uncertainty during recovery, rehabilitation or claims processes
Support for immediate family members when a loved one dies or has a major injury.
Treatment may include:
Understanding how the accident has affected your thoughts, emotions, body and behaviour
Developing practical strategies to manage anxiety, panic, avoidance or hypervigilance
Building coping skills for pain, fatigue, injury adjustment or uncertainty
Supporting graded return to driving, work, study or daily routines where appropriate
Helping you communicate with your GP, rehabilitation provider or support network
Developing realistic goals that support recovery and independence
Our psychologists use evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, skills-based interventions and trauma-informed treatment approaches.

How to get started
1. Obtain a GP/medical referral
TAC-funded psychology treatment requires a referral from a medical practitioner.
2. Send us your referral and TAC details
You or your referrer can send the referral to Framework Psychology.
Please also provide, where available:
Your TAC claim number
The date of your accident
Any existing TAC approval
Details of any previous TAC-funded psychology treatment, if relevant
If you are unsure what you need, you can send us what you have, and we can help identify if anything else is required.
3. We’ll check the funding pathway, and help you find the right psychologist
We’ll check whether treatment can commence under TAC’s early treatment arrangements or whether a treatment plan or prior approval is required.
We can help connect you with an appropriate psychologist and schedule your first appointment. Your referral can be used with any of our psychologists. We’ll help consider your needs, preferences, appointment availability and whether in-person or telehealth treatment is appropriate.

Your psychologist will work collaboratively with you to understand your symptoms, circumstances, strengths, functioning and goals.
Treatment may include:
careful assessment and formulation
evidence-based psychological therapy
strategies for managing anxiety, distress or trauma-related symptoms
support with adjustment to injury or changed circumstances
psychological approaches to pain and coping
rebuilding confidence and independence
improving everyday functioning and participation
supporting a return to valued activities, study or work where relevant
monitoring progress over time.
Our approach is professional and evidence-based, while remaining practical, collaborative and individual.
Because TAC funds your treatment, your psychologist may need to provide information relevant to treatment planning, review and funding.
Depending on your circumstances, this may include information about:
your treatment needs

treatment provided
progress
functioning and participation
recommendations for further treatment.
This does not mean that every detail discussed in therapy is routinely reported to TAC.
Your psychologist will explain the relevant confidentiality and information-sharing arrangements when you begin treatment.
